Medications To Treat Asthma

Asthma is a condition that is very common and affects many people’s lives. Some people suffer severely from asthma breathing difficulties.

Others suffer from minor conditions but either way it stops the sufferer from enjoying life to the full.

Living with asthma can affect people socially, mentally and physically.

Although it may sound harsh, sometimes there are no cures, depending on what type it may be.

However when it comes to the symptoms, there are some medications which can aid asthma and make the condition more comfortable.

When an asthma attack occurs, having access to immediate treatment is very important

There are two main asthma medications:

Anti-Inflammatory Drugs: Taken regularly over many days. When you stop taking them within 2-4 weeks asthmatic inflammation of the bronchial tubes will recur unless you have successfully reduced your exposure to important triggers that can provoke your airway inflammation.

Bronchodilators: Can be used for fast relief of symptoms while anti inflammatories need to be taken regularly over many days or weeks. An asthma nebulizer can help when you have sudden breathing problem symptoms, after walking briskly, for example, and can also make you feel relaxed within minutes. Once you have been diagnosed, your doctor may prescribe more than one medication to treat it and control the condition in the long term.

Asthma medications have two main goals:

For preventing or reversing contraction of the bronchial muscles and for reducing inflammation of the bronchial tubes. Doctors can provide you with asthma relief medication to treat attacks when they occur.  Medications that are prescribed to deal with such attacks will not act to stop it coming back. They are intended more for preventing an asthma attack rather than actually treating one. Depending on the severity of your condition there are different drugs and remedies that are available to help. Medications to treat asthma help you live a happier and healthier lifestyle. It helps you and benefits you every working day.
